An Independence Day Thought

It’s the 67th year of Indian independence and needless to say a proud moment for us, the grandchildren and great grandchildren of brave men and women whose sole aim in life was to free their motherland from the mighty clutches of the British Raj. But like all else, we question ourselves what is it that we are actually celebrating? The righteous possession of a land that was truly ours or the further divisions that are constantly being made of the pie, the brave hearts who fought as one against an insurmountable monster or the ones with whom we entrust the responsibility of safe-guarding what was probably the only good thing that came out of the long-drawn battle?
Well, independence means different things to different individuals. In this day and age, where individualism prevails over everything else, a few talk of the freedom to choose their path, pursue their passion and make a livelihood from the choices they make, while others talk of freedom from the apparent ‘rights’ and ‘wrongs’ that the society decides.

Nuteez celebrates freedom of expression and being able to speak your mind but there is always an opportunity for a greater awakening not just restricted to your own self. As responsible citizens, in whose young hands lies the future of the nation, the buck does not stop at ‘wearing’ what you think but standing up for and voicing your opinion on issues that matter to people at large. With the entire world becoming a global village and a virtual melting point of unending ideas, especially with a tool as powerful as social media, it’s not too difficult to bring about a revolution which has a wide reach! As the old adage goes, freedom brings with it a great deal of responsibility. This Independence Day, stop to think what your purpose of celebrating Independence Day is! Change is only a matter of conviction and belief! HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!
